APPLICATION
D3 steel is a high carbon and high chromium cold work die steel with excellent wear resistance and hardness. It is particularly suitable for manufacturing molds that require high pressure and severe wear, such as stamping dies, shearing dies, and forming dies. In the field of cold working, D3 steel can maintain sharp cutting edges, ensuring long-term high-precision machining.
D3 steel performs well in the manufacturing of precision measuring tools. It is commonly used to make precision measuring instruments such as gauges and plug gauges, and its stable dimensional performance and excellent wear resistance ensure the service life and accuracy of the measuring tools. After appropriate heat treatment, D3 steel can achieve a hardness of HRC60 or higher.
D3 steel is also widely used in the field of tool manufacturing. It is particularly suitable for making cutting tools, punches, and rolling wheels, and its high hardness and good toughness make it perform well in metal cutting. The wear resistance of D3 steel enables it to maintain a longer service life during mass production, reducing the frequency of tool replacement.
Characteristics of D3 Mold Steel
High hardness: D3 steel has a high carbon content (1.5% -2.35%) and a high chromium content (11% -13.5%), which gives it high hardness and wear resistance, making it suitable for high load and high wear environments.
Wear resistance: The high carbon and high chromium composition endows D3 steel with excellent wear resistance, making it suitable for manufacturing molds that require high wear resistance such as stamping dies and shear dies.
Compressive strength: D3 steel has high compressive strength and can withstand large pressures, making it suitable for high load molds.
Moderate toughness: Although the toughness of D3 steel is not as good as some die steels with better toughness, it can still meet the needs of most cold work dies after reasonable heat treatment.
Heat treatment performance: D3 steel can further improve its hardness and wear resistance through quenching and tempering, with a typical quenching temperature of 950 ° C-980 ° C and tempering temperature of 180 ° C-220 ° C.
Corrosion resistance: The high chromium content gives D3 steel a certain degree of corrosion resistance, but not as good as stainless steel, making it suitable for general corrosive environments.
Processing performance: The processing performance of D3 steel is generally average, especially in the annealed state, where cutting is difficult and usually requires pre hardening treatment to improve processing performance.
